Nepal: Nostalgia and Modernity edited by Deepak Shimkhada has just been published by Marg publications. The hardbound volume contains 11 essays in Nepali art, culture and religion by leading scholars from around the world. It is fully illustrated with more than 131 color photographs. Dr. Shimkhada contributed an introduction and a major chapter on Kumari, Nepal’s living goddess, to the volume. He embarked on the project in 2007 when he was invited to edit the volume by Dr. Pratapaditya Pal, General Editor of Marg, assembling a group of stellar scholars from Europe, the United States and South Asia. The project was launched in 2008 and finally came together in 2011 in a beautiful volume. Nepal: Nostalgia and Modernity combines evocative images with insightful essays on various aspects of Nepal by the leading authorities in the field is a celebration of Nepal’s rich artistic heritage.
